What are viruses? Viruses are the cause of colds and the flu. The same is true for computers. A computer virus spreads by making copies in a host. If a file or program contains a virus, it is infected, and the infected file or program is a host. Typically, a virus is transmitted by attaching itself to an executable program that is emailed to someone. When the recipient clicks on the infected program, the virus is activated and may attach itself to other executable files on the computer. Some viruses can destroy data and wreak havoc with a computer system. Others are simply annoying. The primary danger with viruses is their self-replicating quality, which can take over resources in your computer. Viruses are one of the most commonly known types of malicious software. Other types are worms and Trojan horses. A worm is similar to a virus, but is an independent program that does not need to be attached to another. A Trojan horse is a program that appears to perform one task, but actually performs another, usually malicious, task.
How can I protect myself from a virus? GCI’s Email Guard can help keep your inbox clear of spam and viruses. We made it easy to access Email Guard from Webmail preview launch. Not signed up for Email Guard? Click on the Email Guard button and sign up online!

Also if you want to delete multiple messages that are not in a row, hold down your control key and mouse click on the specific messages you want highlighted.

If you are unable to find your contacts, most likely you will find them in the dock. I click on my email guard button and nothing happens, can you help? Your message center will open in a new window. Some browsers treat this as a pop up and if you have pop ups completely disabled, it will prevent your message center from opening. Allow your browser to accept pop ups from that site and that should resolve the issue. If you need any assistance please do not hesitate to contact GCI customer support at support@gci.net
How do a move a message from my inbox to a personal folder? To move messages from your inbox into a folder, simply click on the message with your mouse and drag it to the desired folder. When you are hovering over the folder you want to place the message into, release the mouse button and your message will drop into that folder.
Where is the remember me option? Why do I have to enter my username and password each time? We intend on bringing the remember me functionality back after we complete our webmail preview. Since we are running both systems in parallel, it was necessary to temporarily remove that option.
