Palm Treo 650 Network Settings

Do you currently own a Palm device, and are upgrading to a new Palm Treo650? Please go to this article provided by Palm and follow these upgrade steps before using your new device. By following these steps, it should ensure your devic works properly.

What are the settings for my Converted Palm Treo 650?

GCI has experienced problems getting the MMS to function properly after conversion. However these steps should allow your device to function properly.
To surf the Internet and to receive email, you need the three following settings entered into your Palm Treo 650.
Multimedia Messages (MMS) settings
Internet settings
GCI.net email settings

Multimedia Messages (MMS) settings:

1. Turn Phone On by press and holding down the Power/End button for 2-3 seconds Treo 650 Image
2. If the screen displays “Keyboard: Press Center button to unlock” press the Center Button to unlock the Treo <Tip: you can turn off the auto Keyguard lock function under your Prefs (Keyguard)>
3. On the Treo, press the Home button
4. Tap screen to select All from the drop down list at the top-right of the screen
5 Tap Prefs
6. In the Communications section tap to select Network
7. In the lower right corner tap Modify
8. In the Service field type GCI MMS
9. From the Connection drop down list tap to select GPRS
10. Leave the User Name field & the Password field blank
11. Tap the APN field
12. Type web.gci and tap OK
13. Tap Done
14. Press the Home button to return to the main screen
15. Press the Messaging button
16. Pres the PDA's Menu buttong and from the Options menu tap the screen to select Preferences
17. Under Create new messages as: Select Text and Media (MMS) by tapping drop down list
18 Under the Network tab tap Manual and tap Edit
19. Ensure the Message Center number or Email Center number is +19074442504 <Hint: Hold down the Function Buttong while pressing letter to type a number or special character>
20. In the MMS Gateway Address field type 209.4.229.92 <Hint: Hold down the Function Buttong while pressing letter to type a number or special character>
21. In the MMS URL field type http://mmsc.gci.csky.us:6672
22. Under the Network Profile drop down list tap to select GCI MMS
23. Tap OK
24. Tap OK
25. Press the Home buton to return to the main screen.
The Treo is now configured for Multimedia Messages

 

Internet settings

  1. Press the Home button.
  2. Tap screen to select All from the dropdown list at the top right of the screen.
  3. Tap Prefs
  4. In the Communications section tap to select Network.
  5. In the lower right corner tap Modify
  6. In the Service field type GCI
  7. From the Connection dropdown list tap to select GPRS
  8. Leave the User Name field and the Password field blank
  9. Tap the APN field
  10. Type web.gci and tap OK
  11. Tap Done
  12. Press Home button to return to the main screen.


GCI.net e-mail settings:
1. Press the Home button
2. Tap VersaMail icon (picture)
3. Tap Continue if Initial Setup screen is displayed
4. Under Account Name: type GCI.net
5. From the Mail Service drop down list tap to select Other
6. Tap to select POP from the Protocol drop down list
7. Tap Next
8. In the Username field type your GCI.net username
9. Tap Password box and type in your GCI.net password
10. Tap OK
11. Tap Next
12. On the line under Email Address type your e-mail address
13. On the line under Incoming Mail Server type mail.gci.net
14. On the line under Outgoing Mail Server type smtp.gci.net
15. Tap Next
16. Tap Advanced
17. Tap Next at Incoming Server Settings display
18. At Outgoing Server Settings display tap box to select Use authentication (ESMTP)
19. Tap Done (If display asks if you want to overwrite the existing settings tap Yes)
20. Tap OK
21. Tap Menu button and under Options select Preferences
22. Tap Auto Sync on the screen to select it
23. Tap the box to the left of Sync automatically
24. You can now select how often you want it to sync and on which days
25. Tap OK
The Treo is now configured for your GCI.net e-mail account
