Must I change my cable box?
If you currently have a cable box, you do not need to bring it in to exchange
it. Only if you have GCI basic cable and connect directly to your TV, do you
need to come in and get a box to continue viewing channels.
Why is GCI switching over to a digital
signal?
There are some misconceptions abound in the media that have been broadcasting
mistakes and miscommunications regarding basic digitization. GCI is complying
with the FCC requirement to switch over to digital.
Who does Basic Digitization affect?
Basic Digitization ONLY effects customers that DO NOT already have a DCT/DVR
(set box) connected to their TV.
If I have basic cable, must I have a cable box?
What that means is you will need to have a cable box (DCT or DVR) to continue
viewing channels, effective 1/15/08. The charge for basic only customers to
get a standard DCT with basic service is just $2.79/per month. Right now we
have a promotion giving the first three months free.
I saw the local news, was that information correct?
The local news was not 100 percent accurate. There were some misconceptions:
- They showed a digital box saying that it would not work after 1/15, and that customer would need to swap it out.
- THIS IS NOT TRUE! Only customers that do not already have a box will need to get one.
- GCI is raising preferred service price by $2.79.
- THIS IS NOT TRUE! This is only a charge that basic customers without a box, will start to get after three months.
- Customers will need to lay down $170.00 for a converter or your TV will
become obsolete.
- THIS IS NOT TRUE! If you are a cable customer and have a DCT/DVR GCI has them covered. Only if they don't have cable will they need the $170 box.
GCI has, for the last six months, had an informational campaign, including two
letters, monthly invoice messages and phone calls to inform our basic only customers.
